The Music Library

The Music Library is a limited access facility. As a branch library of DU Penrose Library, the resources and services of the Penrose Library and the Music Library of the University of Denver are developed and maintained primarily for members of the DU community. By showing valid DU identification upon entering the Music Library, all DU students, faculty and staff have unrestricted access to collections and services as well as a range of borrowing privileges described below.

Students, faculty and staff affiliated with colleges and universities in Colorado outside the metro Denver area and Colorado public library users outside the metro Denver area have access and borrowing privileges at Penrose Library.

Individuals with no DU or other higher education affiliation may be eligible for access and borrowing privileges on a fee basis as described below:

One day access without borrowing
$ 5.00
Access for 10 weeks without borrowing
$ 30.00
Access and borrowing for one year
(limit of 5 books checked out at a time)
$100.00
Corporate Borrowers cards One-Year
(5 cards issued)
$500.00

Access and borrowing cards may be purchased at the Circulation Desk. Prospector requests, Interlibrary Loan services, access to items on reserve (including sound and video recordings), remote access to licensed electronic resources, UTS computer labs, and Westminster Law Library access are not provided with the purchase of an access or borrowers card.

Colorado public library users have access and borrowing at Penrose Library as special borrowers if their home library does not own the material needed. Public library users must bring their library card plus a referral card that is signed by their home library's librarian and lists the book and/or journal needed that the Music Library or Penrose Library owns. This is a one day only pass. There is a five-item limit for the borrowing period of 3 weeks from day of checkout, and a one-time renewal of items.

Borrower responsibilities
Checking out any library material from the Music Library or Penrose Library constitutes an agreement by the borrower to abide by the rules and regulations contained in this Lending Code. Borrowing for others is strongly discouraged. If you give library material checked out to you to someone else and they do not return it, you are liable for overdue fines, replacement charges, and processing fees.

Return of Materials
Material is due on or before the due date.

Response to notices
You are required to respond immediately to hold or recall notices. For example, if a book is recalled you must return it by the new due date to avoid overdue fines and other possible charges.

Overdue and replacement charges
Fines for overdue material accrue at the rate of $.50/day/book to a maximum of $15.00. Borrowing is restricted when records show one or more overdue books or $15.00 in fines.

Fines for overdue recalled material accrue at the rate of $1.00/day to a maximum $25.00 fine.

Books are declared "lost" after being overdue 30 days. The lost book charge is as follows:

Juvenile, US Government Documents
$40.00
Art, Folios, Oversized
$115.00
Browsing, Humanities, Social Sciences
$110.00
Sciences/Technology/Medical
$110.00

A $15.00 nonrefundable processing fee is included in the book charge. Lost books that are returned carry a $15.00 overdue fine. Fines and fees apply to all borrowers.
