Abstract

Dr. Abraham J. Kauvar, M.D. (1915-2003) was head of Health and Hospitals for Denver, 1974-1980, and for New York City, 1980-1981. The A. J. Kauvar Foundation, which is dedicated to discovering and helping to fulfill the health care needs of the elderly, was created to honor Dr. Kauvar.

Scope and Content

The collection highlights the career of Dr. Kauvar. The collection includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, awards, legal papers from the case of Trimble v. City and County of Denver, audiocassettes, scrapbooks, publications, memorabilia, and photographs. The papers document the professional and personal life of a major figure in Denver's medical community. The collection also contains correspondence with Rabbi Charles E. H. Kauvar (Dr. Kauvar's father), who was a noted religious leader in Denver.

The papers were donated to the University of Denver by Abraham J. Kauvar, M.D. in 1998.
