The John A. Love Collection at the University of Denver emphasizes
his activities as a Republican governor and politician. The collection
includes personal correspondence and correspondence related to his
activities prior to running for governor of Colorado in 1962. The
majority of the collection consists of material and correspondence
relating to his involvement with the Republican Governor’s
Association, as well as his campaigns for governor in 1962, 1966,
and 1970. |
Scope and
Content
Series 1 consists of Love’s personal and business
information The series includes personal correspondence as well
as correspondence and papers dealing with his involvement with the
U.S. Navy as well as various charities. Series 2 deals with his
work in connection with the Republican Governors Association and
the Republican Coordinating Committee, a series of task forces researching
and publishing white papers on specific issues. |
Series 3 contains correspondence, publicity
brochures, newspaper clippings, and general documentation of Love’s
gubernatorial campaigns. Included in this series are correspondence
and materials related to other campaigns and party activities, notably
correspondence relating to the 1964 presidential nomination and
election, which saw the Republicans split in their support for Barry
Goldwater.
Series 4 covers public relations, including gubernatorial
appointments and correspondence. One sub-section of the series contains
copies of speeches made by Love, and another contains correspondence
written on various legislative matters. Series 5 includes publications,
some bound and some in loose form, that cover research on Colorado
politics and demographics.
